El Journalero is the day worker, the man who puts in the hours, and the cigar is named for him. It smokes like something you have earned rather than something you are studying.
It opens sweet with a faint vanilla and a light touch of pepper, then settles into dry biscuit across the first couple of centimetres. From there it opens right up: dark chocolate, nuts and licorice, with a fresh green lift of rosemary cutting through and bread underneath holding it all together. The midpoint turns softer and sweeter, cookie dough and more nuts with a thread of sweet milk. The last third is the best of it, all sweetness, milk and cornflakes filling the mouth right to the end. A lot of flavor for the money, and honest work from start to finish. Shipped nationwide across Japan from RACC.
