The Basilica line honours Emmanuel Casdagli, the patriarch who built the family's Egyptian cotton house, and whose portrait sits on the band. Basilica comes from the ancient Greek for Royal House. The line was created for Casdagli's Saudi clientele, who wanted a cigar to sit beside oriental teas and citrus-bright Arabic cooking. That flared foot is deliberate, easing you gently into the richness ahead.
Full bodied but wonderfully smooth, it pours out cocoa, heavy cream, dark chocolate, and French vanilla, with a soft milkiness holding it all together. Dessert in cigar form, and very hard to put down.
