Cavalier Genève Black II Robusto
Cavalier Genève Black II Robusto
• Wrapper: Mexico San Andrés Maduro
• Binder: Nicaragua Habano
• Filler: Nicaragua Habano
• Size: Robusto, 127mm, box pressed
Black II is the old school maduro of the Cavalier Genève range. It arrived in 2017 as the house’s third blend and its first box pressed cigar: a Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper over a core that is Nicaraguan Habano through and through, rolled today at Cavalier’s own factory, Fábrica Centroamericana de Tabaco in Danlí, Honduras.
The robusto is the format that shows the wrapper best. It opens on dark cherry, the deep kind you find at the bottom of a clafoutis, with deep chocolate and espresso right behind it, dense and bittersweet. Through the middle it softens into graham cracker and walnut with a thread of cinnamon, and the last third turns creamy while the espresso holds on underneath. Medium strength with a full flavor, and the press keeps the draw slow and cool for the full fifty minutes. Shipped nationwide across Japan from RACC.
