Rex was a real person. He was Dion Giolito's friend, his customer and his attorney, and in 2013 he asked for a cigar of his own. Giolito made him one and named it after him. It was a store exclusive at Fumare in Reno for years before it came back as regular production, and it arrives in plain gold foil bundles with no band at all, which tells you everything about where the money went.
For something this small it carries an enormous amount. Creamy almonds lead, popcorn and toast sit in the middle, and roasted coffee and cocoa nibs build underneath. Baking spices turn to a long run of cinnamon on the finish with a thread of molasses sweetness behind it. Forty minutes, medium to full, and one of the best value cigars in the shop.
