AJISAI 紫陽花 — VPOTM June 2026
June in Japan belongs to the hydrangea.
Not the cherry blossom — that moment has passed. Not the heat of summer — that hasn't arrived yet. June is something else entirely. The rainy season. Grey light, heavy air, wet stone, and the ajisai blooming everywhere, in blues and purples and whites that have no business being that vivid in that kind of weather. There is a Japanese word for it — mono no aware — the bittersweet beauty of things that pass. June is that feeling, distilled.
This pack was built around it. Five cigars that share the quality of the hydrangea: pale, elegant, complex in a way that reveals itself slowly. Nothing aggressive. Nothing loud. Each one carrying something hidden that you only find if you slow down enough to look.
The Pack:
Cavalier Genève White Series Diplomate — Sébastien Decoppet's original blend. The one that started everything. Habano wrapper with 24kt gold leaf pressed directly into the leaf — gold hidden in plain sight. Graham cracker, toasted bread, gentle spice that elevates without overpowering, and vanilla that stays with you to the last draw. Mild-Medium.
Casdagli Epicurist Figurado — Named for Napoleon's most daring cavalry general, a man who smoked in battle. Blended by Hendrik Kelner Jr. at the KBF factory in the Dominican Republic. Ecuadorian Claro Colorado wrapper, creamy and silky. Popcorn, floral notes, vanilla — unusual, quiet, unforgettable. Mild-Medium.
Lampert Gatsby Torpedo — Dr. Stefan Lampert blends the way a Viennese tailor cuts a suit: every detail considered, nothing wasted. Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper aged two years, Ecuadorian binder aged three, Peruvian Pelo d'Oro filler aged five. Roasted nuts, natural leather, a citrus note on the retrohale that arrives like light through clouds. Mild-Medium.
Illusione Haut-10 — Created by Dion Giolitto to mark Illusione's tenth anniversary. Three sortings of Aganorsa leaf to find the best material. A single size, one format only. The Café Claro Corojo wrapper is pale and carries something floral, something that belongs to memory more than description. Ginger, anise, stone fruit, white pepper, cedar, cream. Medium-Full.
Crowned Heads Mil Días Topes — It took Jon Huber, Eradio Pichardo, and Luciano Meirelles one thousand days to finish this blend. Three years of patience. The name says everything. French toast, roasted nuts, natural leather, cinnamon in the final third. A cigar that rewards the same patience it took to make it. Medium.
Five pale flames in June rain. Smoke slowly — the ajisai doesn't rush either.
Limited quantity. Once it's gone, it's gone.
