The Vater line honours Austria's Field Marshal Joseph Radetzky von Radetz, one of the minds behind the Coalition's victory over Napoleon at Leipzig in 1813. His soldiers called him Vater, meaning father. Jeremy Casdagli built the line to salute the Napoleonic generals who carried their sabres, and often their love of tobacco, into battle. It is blended at KBF by Hendrik Kelner Jr.
What makes this one special is the leaf: a rare Zimbabwean tobacco, and as far as I know Casdagli is the only brand using it. It gives the Vater a striking floral character, the kind of smoke that belongs on a slow walk through the countryside, backed by dark chocolate and a warm note of baking spice. Distinctive from the first puff.
