The Holy Lance is the spear that pierced Christ on the cross, and Constantine is said to have carried it into battle because it was believed to guarantee victory. Giolito named his lancero after it. Released in 2011 and still one of the finest cigars made with Mexican tobacco.

A lancero is the hardest shape to roll and the hardest to blend, because at 40 ring the wrapper is doing most of the work. This one opens bold, with black pepper and a deep aged tobacco character, then softens into sweet nuts that run the length of it. The finish brings caramel, more nuts, cocoa and a bright citrus turn that lifts the whole thing at the end. Medium to full across an hour and a half. It rewards a slow pace, so give it the evening.
