Plus 53 is the international dialling code for Cuba. Everything about the name is a wink, and the second band on the cigar is there so you know this one is different from the rest of the OneOff line. The blend is stronger and Giolito has never said exactly how it differs. It is rolled at the Aganorsa factory in Nicaragua and the wrapper is silky, reddish brown and loaded with oil.

Smooth and creamy from the light. Coffee latte, caramel and vanilla come first, threaded with cashews and roasted peanuts. That combination is close to home for me. I grew up in Montelimar, the nougat capital of the world, where my whole family worked the nougat factories and so did I, and the town smelled of caramel, roasted almonds and honey every day of the year. The middle brings cocoa nibs and sourdough bread, then an almond creaminess with bitter espresso, toast and cinnamon behind it. The finish is white pepper and more caramel. Medium to full across an hour and five minutes, and easily one of the most complex cigars in the shop. Shipped nationwide across Japan from RACC.
